Dear Langston Hughes Family,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at our first PTA meeting of the year.  Thank you so much for making that extra effort.  It really makes a difference.  Continue to support our efforts by remembering the following:

  • T.A.P. students are Thoughtful, Articulate and Precise in their work.  Encourage your child to think before acting and/or speaking.  Promote discussion in your household.  Talk about books, daily activities and anything else that comes to mind.  Make sure your children are speaking in complete sentences and can support their ideas with details and evidence.  Finally, encourage your child to revisit and redo any work that does not represent his or her very best effort.
  • Academic and Personal Behaviors that promote college and career readiness will be another part of our positive behavior program this year.  We will begin by working on Self-Regulation and Work Habits/Organizational Skills.  This work will come home with your children starting next week.  Help your children understand how these behaviors will help them at home and in school.
  • Our first Building Blocks Parent Workshop will take place on Saturday, October 26th.  Look for the flyer early next week.
  • Volunteers are needed.  If you are interested in helping in our school please send a letter in your child’s backpack for the PTA President, Nicole Campbell or the Principal, Denean Stephens-Spellman.  The Langston Hughes Parent Volunteer Corps Orientation session is scheduled for Monday, October 7th.  Flyers will go home early next week.

The PTA meetings allow us to share information and answer questions that many of you may have.  If you didn’t make the first one, make the next one.  If you came to the first one, pat yourself on the back and do it again next month.  Let’s fill our auditorium and work together to make our school a vibrant institution of learning for our children and the adults that serve them.
